#7 Aurora Borealis

My bed at home is awesome.

It's king sized, more comfortable than a ball pool filled with candy floss (although significantly less tasty) and mechanically produces a TV out the end upon the simple press of the button to allow in-bed-Xbox-playing during the early afternoon of an Easter Monday when the wife is gallivanting around in Australia.

A few weeks ago, life was less comfortable - sandwiched between two single mattresses in a double sleeping bag with one of the world's most prominent bed hogs in sub-zero temperatures whilst being overlooked by a couple of sinister figures was less than the five star luxury I have come to expect during my shut-eye.

Guarding the room

Our first post-honeymoon holiday took us to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, completing challenge #7 Stay in the Ice Hotel. The place was incredible - dragons, chandeliers, beds and more made from crystal clear river water and sullied by the slumbering masses of illumination seeking tourists.

One of the rooms in the hotel - the inside of a whale!

The main hall of the hotel

I'm going to avoid turning this into a collection of holiday snaps, although there are plenty knocking around.

The hotel was one thing, but the best part of the trip was the activities. From being dragged on a sled by huskies to have breakfast with some locals, to crashing a Reindeer into a metal gate (taking out the guide who was desperately trying to hold it close to protect the other tour-goers) to hitting 50mph on a snowmobile. On a frozen river. In pitch black. The activities were incredible.

Then, at about 10pm on the final night, the real thing I wanted to tick off my list suddenly appeared overhead. Job jobbed.

Note to self - next time, bring tripod!

Bad pics - good views!
